During the past 25 years of clinical practice, I’ve seen people’s responses to pain vary greatly from individual to individual. Pain perception is unique to each person. What is disabling to one, is a nuisance to another. It has very little to do with the source of the pain, whether back or head pain or fibromyalgia or any other source. Pain is a matter of perception; and perception of pain occurs in the brain. Yoga and meditation work within the body to alter pain perceptions in the brain. So also does biofeedback. Both of these approaches require time and committed discipline in order to be effective. Biochemistry, in the form of pain pills, relaxants, blockers, or stimulants also work on our perception of pain, usually trying to control the ability of the central nervous system to perceive pain. Unfortunately, many of the biochemical remedies have side effects which may, over time, become a greater problem for the patient than the initiating pain. Anxiety, depression, and insomnia are all well-established consequences of unrelenting pain and a great source of more pain for many.
Extremely low frequency electricity establishes brain’s homeostasis
A recent article in the New York Times, “A Depression Switch?,” was their most emailed article for several days running. It described a low level electrical treatment to the brain as a successful means of producing profound effects on chronic depression. This article has helped draw attention to the fact that the brain is an electrical phenomenon and can be altered dramatically by electrical applications. Although the procedure described in the Times article involves brain surgery to emplant the electrical receiver and thousands of dollars of expenses to achieve, it informed millions of readers that the human brain has different areas of electrical imbalances as the result of physical and psychological disturbances. It also demonstrated that seeking to balance the electrical charge within the brain leads to improvements in physical and psychological behavioral effects.
Most people are surprised to learn that scientific research on the application of extremely low levels of electricity to balance the homeostasis within the brain is among the most well established of any medical protocol, and the most successful in relieving pain perceptions and the effects of stress on individuals. On average, 70% of patients suffering from pain from all sources, from anxiety, from depression and from insomnia , all improve significantly (by at least 25%) in as little as three weeks of daily applications of extremely low levels of electricity applied directly to the brain. Many require no further treatment for relief past the three week period and report in patient surveys that they are “cured” as a result of such treatments.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has researched and approved these treatments as safe and effective.
In addition, as an adjunct to other therapies, such as biofeedback, meditation, yoga, physical therapy, psychotherapy, counseling, progressive relaxation, etc., improvements are enhanced by the use of extremely low levels of electricity used to balance the brain’s homeostasis. More than 150 research studies, including double-blind, overview of human and experimental animal studies, and meta-analyses verify these results and are available. Side effects from these treatments are rare, mild and self-limiting. Treatments are simple and may be done at home over a three week period. Equipment may be leased for use without requiring purchase.
Research and clinical experience has been ongoing over the past 40 years in this remarkable field of human health, but very few people have heard of it. This is due in part to the chemical emphasis of the pharmaceutical companies that control much of health care in America. It’s also due to the lack of investor opportunities in this field. That is, the devices for delivering the low level electricity to the brain are not expensive and in most cases treatment is not extensive, so no one can make much money off of this work. That, in turn, has not attracted much investor money and the protocols have gone largely unnoticed.
This will change as the side effects of chemical interventions continue to yield compromised results, as the effects of stress continue to burden modern life, and as an aging boomer population comes to grips with their own quality of life issues. Reducing pain levels, reducing the negative effects of stress, of anxiety, depression and insomnia in one’s life could very easily make the difference between suffering and a high quality of life.
Not everyone is ready to discipline their own intelligence for their self-healing. Until that time, it is possible to reduce the suffering by balancing the electrical homeostasis within the brain with a daily application of extremely low level electricity. These simple devices have helped thousands of people; maybe it could help you as well. Contact Dr. Sears at 503-225-0255.
